MEYKHANEH

musical and dance performance

5.12.2008, Czech music museum, Prague

„ I want to be served bitter wine which would strike down even the strongest man, to free myself of narrow-mindedness and find shelter in myself“

Meykhaneh (“The Tavern”) is a laboratory of life where the soul of a lover - searcher of truth - is being formed. His soul is disintegrated right here, broken up, then rebuilt and disintegrated so that he can understand and purify his soul in the end. The show is a mosaic of Persian dances accompanied by live music of Iranian santoor, representing the atmosphere of mystical persian tavern:

  • Santoor in tavern – transforms substance into fluidum, death changes into life and visions turn reality.
  • Terekem – Nomads – Azerbeijani dance symbolizing a nomadic vision of healthy soul. “Live your life on Earth but do not adhere to anything because your wandering soul can only survive outside of this material world.“
  • Rhythm of one tousand and one hunders of God´s fools
  • Pari – folklore symbol of a supernatural being driven out of the paradise. It can not return until it repents. Improvization in Saqi dance.
  • Yaram Labe Boom – My lover is on the roof – Tadjick-Afghani choreography.
  • Blooming Santoor
  • Zekre Mastane (The Drunken) - enchanting – recalling „memories“. Theme of sufi-shamanic rituals of Central Asia.
  • Caucasus – dance of norther Azerbaijan. Normally men dance it, but women dance it here. Dance is dedicated to love between man and woman which surpasses the borders between sexes. Based on shamanic dances related to nature, to animals here. Deer – symbol of beauty, elegance and cleverness, eagle – symbolize power, unity and majesty of soul.
  • Chaotic pray
  • Deldadeh - Santoor improvisation.
  • One tousand and one houndred of pieces of my heart – santoor dance improvization.
  • Sharabe Talkh (Bitter wine) – bitter but true, sour but splendid, luscious and pure – that is what we want.
