SAQI

Dance performance

6.12.2008, Theater Na prádle, Prague

Hypnotising choreography connecting current persian sufi music, poetry of Rumi, Hafez and Omar Chajjam and calligraphy in the forgotten mystical dance Saqi.

Saqi, the admired figure of tavern owner found in many persian poems, is primarily a source of inspiration and enbodies the simplicity of existance. The wine she pours is an elixir bringing mystical love and divine intoxication…Inspiring collage connecting ancient mysticism and current dance creation with original music reveals the expression of earthly love, beauty and divinity. Bringing the ancient past into our present can be a medicine for our time. When we open our eyes and let this experience flow through to us, when the extraordinary becomes familiar, we find that our hearts are connected.

The performace was awarded in Toroto and in Tanz-Haus Duesseldorf.

Two solo choreographies were presented in the Saqi performance in world´s premiere:

Anar (Pomegranade) is based on the Central Asian mystic and shamanic sufi ritual tradition. Dance was performed by the Canadian dance professor Susah Cash from York University of Toroto.

Grief inspired by Eastern lamenting rituals performed by Sashar Zarif.
